Krakow, Poland
We ended our afternoon with a tour of Krakow. Because it was not destroyed during the war, Krakow still has many remnants of old Polish Jewry. The Kehila here is still successful and there is even a JCC, much to everyone's amazement. We visited seven of the city's shuls, which were all within a three block radius. We went to the Alter shul, which is now a museum, and looked at the exhibits that explained Judaism as a culture. Then we visited the Rama's shul and visited its cemetery where many famous rabanim are buried. It was nice to tour Krakow and see the smaller but successful Jewish community that is rooted here. We then returned to the hotel to prepare for Shabbat.
